The First Step

The first step is admitting you have a credit problem. It could be very obvious by being turned down after submitting an application or by receiving an adverse action letter in the mail from an existing creditor changing your terms.

The next thing to do is set aside some time to define a plan on how you are going to fix the situation. Make sure you have internet access as having the internet available will make the planning easier.

Now,

Immediately get copies of your 3 credit bureaus. They are Equifax, Experian, and Transunion.

You can request these bureaus at no charge once per year from AnnualCreditReport.com This is the website that the US GOVERNMENT required all 3 Credit Bureaus to host and pay for. Through this site, you will get your complete unedited credit reports without the credit score. You will have to purchase your score if you want to see it.

Other sites such as the much advertized "FreeCreditReport.com" want to charge you for your credit report and the site offers no way to get your free one.

If you have been turned down for credit, you are able to request a free credit report from the bureau that issued the decline. This time, you will need to go to the Credit Bureau's website to request the free bureau.

The sites are:

www.Equifax.com

www.Experian.com

www.Transunion.com

In the next post, we will discuss how to read each bureau.

See you then.
